“Something weird is
happening in the Riverland… Crystal follows six young kids as a
strange storm descends on the Riverland, threatening to break their homes and
tear apart their families. “ CRYSTAL began its
development in 2005 and was a major performance in 2006 for RYT’s junior
ensemble. This dynamic multi media
performance piece explored the effects of divorce and separation on the lives
of young people and was performed during Mental Health Week 2006 to high school
students from across the region.
Written by Caleb
Lewis and directed by previous RYT Artistic Director Steve Mayhew, CRYSTAL was
developed in partnership with Riverland Community Health HOPE (Helping
Ourselves Through Peer Education) project, Riverland Mental Health, CAMHS
(Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service) and Renmark Paringa Learning
Tree program all of which are attempting to create avenues and opportunities
for young people who are disengaged from mainstream education and work
environments. All these projects
recognise that there is a real need for the community to address the causes of
mental health problems that affect our young people in the region.
