RYT is inviting everyone in the Riverland and Mallee to get involved in PlayFest_08, a community festival of short theatre performances between 15 and 30 mins. Open to individuals, groups of friends, schools, and community groups PlayFest_08 is the place to try your hand at theatre whether you want to act, write, direct, design costumes, produce or compose music. PlayFest_08 is the place to do it!

Groups can produce performances of their own choice, new writing or classic plays and rehearse in lounge rooms, classrooms, community halls, anywhere with a bit of space.  RYT will provide support and mentoring to groups as needed including help finding scripts, planning rehearsals, linking up potential cast and technical problem solving.  RYT will also run a series of intensive workshops in design, directing, writing and production management open to registered groups.

RYT will host PlayFest_08 at the Renmark Institute where groups will have access to sound and light equipment, technical staff will be provided and audiences will sit in heated comfort as a result of recent venue upgrades.

RYT is now in a fantastic position to share its resources and support young people and the community to make the theatre that interests them.  I started out in the arts directing and acting in student and community theatre and I learnt so much and had great fun working with friends to put on shows. PlayFest_08 will be held on September 19 - 20 and so now is the time to start thinking about how you would like to be involved.  Information packs are now available and an information night will be held on Thursday May 29 at 7pm at the Renmark Institute for individuals and groups to find out more and meet up with potential collaborators.  Artistic Director Julie Waddington is also happy to visit schools and groups in towns across the region or have a chat over the phone.
