The Come Out Festival, ABC Local Radio South Australia and Riverland Youth Theatre (RYT) are joining forces to present an on-line project Wireless Voices that will see the creation of the brand new radio play for the 2009 Come Out Festival.
As part of the project writer Sean Riley is in the Riverland for two weeks from September 1 delivering free creative writing workshops to school students in Riverland and Mallee Schools. The workshops were offered to all schools in the region and Sean will be hitting the road to visit Renmark and Loxton High Schools, Glossop Middle School, Renmark North, Renmark, Moorook and Kingston-on-Murray Primary Schools, East Murray Area School and Lameroo Regional Community School.
Feedback and input from students in the workshops will establish the basis for a new radio play after which young people everywhere can go on-line at the ABC website to post feedback and new scenes each week.
A final free writing workshop will be hosted by RYT at the Renmark Institute on Saturday September 13th 1-4pm. The workshop is open to all young people and bookings are essential. Contact RYT on 8586 3437 for more information and to book a place.
“Sean is fantastic at engaging young people in the art of writing and I can’t wait to see what stories unfold towards the Wireless Voices script” says RYT Artistic Director Julie Waddington
In 2009 sound design and performance aspects of the project will be developed and again Riverland and Mallee students will have a chance to learn about different artistic mediums and contribute to the project.
