BigSmoke opportunity for aspiring young actors

Riverland Youth Theatre (RYT) is offering the opportunity to enable four young aspiring actors to work alongside two professional actors in its next major production BigSmoke.

BigSmoke was developed in 2009 through a series of workshops and creative play experiences with over 350 children from Riverland Schools, and the script was then written by award winning playwright Finegan Kruckemeyer. This year will see some of South Australia’s best professional theatre artists work alongside youth cast members to create a quality theatre production for Riverland children aged 5-9 years. Actors Emma Beech and Hew Parham are both graduates of Flinders University Drama Centre and have gone onto study and perform across Australia and overseas.

‘The chance to work alongside such experienced and generous actors is rare for young people living anywhere and especially in regional areas’ says Artistic Director Julie Waddington.

The production will tour to venues in Waikerie, Loxton, Barmera and Renmark April 28 – May 4 performing to primary school and general public audiences.

‘The cast will need to take a little time off school in exchange for some hard work and fun in a real world experience. It is a fantastic opportunity for those who are creatively driven’ says Artistic Director Julie Waddington.

Auditions will be held this Sunday 14 February at the Renmark Institute and are open to young people aged 15-26 years. The audition will be in the style of a workshop with participants engaging in a range of acting exercises.
